Every week, 38 Australians are diagnosed with myeloma.

In May 2021, as part of Myeloma Awareness Month, we launched the 38mate Awareness Initiative. It was designed to raise awareness about myeloma and show support and solidarity for those living with myeloma. Even now, the 38mate message is still being heard across the country and the globe, reaching nearly 100,000 people to date.

Today, we ask you to continue to show your support by being a part of 3.8 with a mate!

3.8 with a mate is Myeloma Australia’s first ever national fundraising and awareness walk. This community event is our way of further supporting the 38mates who are diagnosed with myeloma each week in Australia.

How can you get involved in 38mate?

38 people per week – hear their stories, share their stories

38 people being diagnosed with myeloma per week is not just a number. It is 38 lives and families. Throughout May, we’re releasing a series of short videos that tell the stories of people who are living with myeloma, caring for a loved one with myeloma, or who have lost a loved one to myeloma. The videos will be shared via our social media platforms, so be sure to follow along. Help us by sharing the videos to your own networks.

Here are some of our courageous 38mates who have chosen to share their stories to help raise awareness about myeloma.

#JoyfulMoments

Myeloma Australia is launching a new campaign called #JoyfulMoments.

This is all about celebrating what makes you, YOU.

During Myeloma Awareness Month in May, we want to hear all the hobbies and interests our community has!

Just complete the sentence “I’m a 38mate and I love  …” or

“I care for a 38mate and I love …” and send a photo or a video of you doing the thing that makes you feel joyful.

Simply email 38mate@myeloma.org.au with your photos or videos before the end of May.

We’ll then share your photos and videos – as part of our focus on wellbeing and possibility and to celebrate you!
