Research donations

A cure is within reach but it won’t happen without action. Myeloma is still incurable. Every day, Australians face early diagnosis delays, relentless treatment and lives cut short. Your support helps fund world‑class research and a national pathway towards a cure.

Help change the future of myeloma in Australia

Behind every myeloma diagnosis is a family facing a life-long, life limiting cancer. While treatments have improved, there is still no cure. For too many people, diagnosis comes late, treatment options are delayed and the physical, emotional and financial toll is overwhelming.

But there is now a clear, evidence based pathway to change this.

A plan that saves lives and delivers real impact

Myeloma Australia’s National Myeloma Strategy (2026–2031) is a bold, coordinated plan to reduce deaths, improve quality of life and accelerate progress towards a cure.

Developed in direct response to Australia’s largest ever myeloma economic impact study, the Strategy targets the biggest drivers of harm:

  • Premature deaths
  • Relapse and repeated hospitalisations
  • Delayed diagnosis
  • Fragmented research and data
  • Heavy burden on patients and carers

This is an evidence-based, costed plan with clear, measurable benefits.

Over five years, an investment of $132 million is projected to deliver $1.5 billion in economic and social benefit, while most importantly giving people with myeloma more time, better health and greater independence.

Where your donation makes a difference

Your support helps fund the Myeloma Impact Fund, which drives five critical reform areas.

  1. A national cure pathway

Australia already has world leading clinicians and researchers. What has been missing is coordination.

Donations support investigator led trials, precision medicine research, and a national framework to fast-track discoveries into real treatments, all focused on reducing premature death and moving closer to a cure.

Even a small reduction in myeloma related deaths delivers enormous benefits for families and communities.

  • Best treatment, first time

Too many people cycle through older treatments before gaining access to the most effective options.

Your support helps reform treatment pathways so people get the right therapy earlier, reducing relapse, hospital stays and long-term harm and giving people longer, better quality remissions.

  • Earlier diagnosis, better outcomes

Myeloma symptoms are often vague and easy to miss.

Donations fund GP education, public awareness, and monitoring programs so warning signs are recognised earlier, preventing irreversible damage to bones and kidneys and avoiding emergency hospital admissions.

  • Support for patients and carers

Living with myeloma affects entire families.

Your gift helps expand specialist nursing support, reduce travel burdens for regional patients and address the hidden financial and emotional costs carried by carers, many of whom are forced to reduce work or leave employment altogether.

  • Smarter data, faster progress

Better data means better decisions.

Donations help strengthen Australia’s myeloma registry, link real world treatment outcomes, and guide smarter research and policy, ensuring every dollar spent delivers maximum benefit.

Why act now?

The number of Australians living with myeloma is rising. Without action, the human and economic costs will keep growing, year after year.

But the evidence is clear. Targeted investment now saves lives, reduces suffering and delivers lasting value.

The burden has been measured.
The strategy is ready.
What is needed now is the support to make it real.

Your donation helps deliver hope

When you donate to myeloma research, you are not just funding science. You are helping build a future where:

  • Fewer people die too soon
  • Diagnosis happens earlier
  • Treatments work better and sooner
  • Families receive real support
  • A cure moves from possibility to reality

Together, we can change what it means to be diagnosed with myeloma in Australia.
