Image of Marlo McCarthy

Marlo McCarthy lives with myeloma, a reality that grounds her perspective in firsthand experience. She knows what diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care actually demand physically, emotionally and practically. That knowledge didn’t come from research or secondhand reports. It came from navigating the uncertainty of test results, the exhaustion of treatment and the lifelong process of adapting to a new normal. She brings that lived understanding to her work with Myeloma Australia and the broader community.

For Marlo, this work is deeply personal. It’s about making sure the person hearing their diagnosis for the first time has somewhere to turn. She pushes for better awareness because she knows too many people still face this disease feeling isolated. She speaks up for equity because a person’s background shouldn’t determine the quality of their care. At the core of all she does is a simple principle: patients should have a voice. She is dedicated to strengthening the myeloma community by helping ensure every person affected feels seen, heard and supported.
