Reducing emotional stress of myeloma

In this webinar, Dr Veronica Johnson, Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years’ experience, explores ways to reduce the emotional and psychological stress of living with myeloma. She explains how physical illness inevitably impacts mental wellbeing, and why difficult emotions such as fear, grief, anger, and uncertainty are a natural response to circumstances we cannot control.

Dr Johnson introduces practical psychological frameworks, including the circle of control, to help people focus their energy on what they can influence while letting go of what they cannot. She also discusses identity changes following diagnosis, the loss of familiar roles, and how to reconnect with purpose, values, and meaning during long-term illness. The session highlights the role of psychologists as part of the care team and outlines options for accessing mental health support, including Medicare-subsidised care.
